Longridge Wine Estate, situated on the slopes of Helderberg Mountains on the road from Somerset West to Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa’s leaders in organic and biodynamic wine farming. Cellarmaster and managing directior, Jasper Raats originally founded the very well-known estate, Raats Family Wines with his brother Bruwer Raats. Amongst their many other achievements, Jasper and his wine maker wife Sally also started award-winning Koru Wines in New Zealand.
“Our vision is to produce environmentally sustainable wines of superior quality applying the age-old traditions of natural winemaking and respecting our land. Our philosophy is simple – we want to make enjoyable wines, that are healthy to drink and of a world-class standard.” - Jasper Raats.
Organic and biodynamic practices are employed both in the vineyard and the cellar and no pesticides, herbicides or chemical sprays are used in the vineyard and commercial yeasts, enzymes, fining agents, stabilisers etc in the cellar. Biodynamic farming methods are utilized to the fullest, minimizing the impact on the environment.
Longridge Wine Estate and Jasper Raats recently received three gold medals at the Grand International Organic Wine Awards – recognition of their leading status in the production of organic wines, both locally and globally.
On the evening, we will be fortunate to be tasting some of their acclaimed wines, amongst them,
Longridge Chenin - Certified organic, naturally fermented and their Organic Chardonnay.
